Description:  This close-up of a microfluidic memory shows two types of fluid as they move through the chip. Light-colored fluid enters from the right and exits through the channel at the bottom. The dark-colored fluid enters from the narrow channel on the left and exits through the channel at the top. A sharp, momentary increase in pressure through the narrow channel switches the outflows, which can represent binary numbers.
