Description:  The top image shows the one millimeter square array of electrodes that connect HP Labs' molecular memory device to the outside world. The next image shows the electrodes connected to the device's much smaller grid of nanowires. The third image shows the grid, and the fourth is a close-up of the nanowires. Each wire is 40 millionths of a millimeter wide, and each junction contains 1,000 molecules that act as an electrical switch that stores a bit.
